Nurturing Future Teachers
Our Early Childhood Education Teacher Training program opened its doors last year and has proven very useful in the preparation of each enrolled student. Over the course of three years, each participant is receiving guidance concerning effective ways to instruct children ages four to six.
Currently in Guatemala, to become a primary school teacher often requires the completion of a technical degree at a university, which poses a significant challenge to obtain. The Early Childhood Education Teacher Training program provides an effective alternative for students who need to start working as soon as possible or who are unable to complete a university degree due to financial limitations.
The goal of this initiative is to ensure that our students become competent educations who are committed to the wholistic development of young children. We combine instruction with stimulation techniques that have proven to help children attain a solid foundation for effective learning. One added value that Agua Viva offers is the opportunity for teachers to apply their knowledge by teaching our preschool students. During these sessions our future educators develop needed skills such as group management, organization and planning, and the flexibility to handle unforeseen situations.
Seeing these future teachers develop a love for teaching young children has been a rewarding experience for their instructors. Guatemala needs more educators who are passionate about teaching and who are loving towards our youngest pupils. Receiving this type of education in one’s formative years reduces the likelihood of dropping out of school as teenagers and also helps to develop productive adults who can contribute to the economic growth and social development of our country.
