Little Piece of Heaven
By Kate – FL
Agua Viva is a little piece of Heaven on earth. I did not know what to expect when I learned I would join a group going to Guatemala. I am a teacher and counselor, so I have seen and participated in a lot of education and mental health opportunities around the states. This was my first trip out of the country with a desire to help however I could. Although I had no expectation of what I would see or experience, I knew God was going to lead. I needed Him to move in me because I had been struggling with having little joy and just feeling down.
God was on that mountain top in a special way. He reminded us of His love when we saw the faces of the children and adults; even the flowers were a testimony of His beauty. We sensed His presence everywhere!
Our team participated in a Sunday service, and on Friday we had a wonderful time praising Jesus! I am not a Spanish speaker yet, but when we got to praise the Lord with our Guatemalan brothers and sisters, it was truly a holy experience. God has no language barrier.
My team member Eric had visited Agua Viva when it was also a children’s home. Both of us taught at the same Christian school here in the states. We spoke about how Agua Viva was similar to our small Christian school; however, these kids got along better. They valued their education and loved being with their friends at school. We enjoyed reading books with them and playing English learning games. I also managed to pick up some Spanish as well. It was also amazing to see how well the school provides much needed education from a biblical perspective.
God is moving in this little piece of Heaven and the people at Agua Viva have become like family to me. Words can’t express what God is doing there, it is a place you have to experience for yourself!
